GOLDEN CIRCLE TRIP TO THE WHITE HOUSE
On June 29th, 41 Golden Circle members and friends departed from St Matthew to visit the WHITE HOUSE. It's president, Helen Sanders, has been excited about our 44th President ever since he first announced his candidacy. She prepared a lunch for each person: chicken, hush pupies, sweet potato pie, barbeque & soft drinks. Would you believe that the met at the church @ 5 AM in preparation for their 5:30 AM departure.

Their first tour was of the Fredrick Douglass home. This was highly enjoyed as they awaited their tour of the White House. Would you believe that their tour manager was told that their tour of the White House had been cancelled? With some "closet" and "down on your knees" prayer, they came up with the idea of telling the staff @ the White House the names of the prestitious members of their group. Mrs Victoria's husband was a buffalo soldier + Mrs. Christine was the first African-American nurse in the WACs. (She once told me of the time when President Truman integrated the WACs--and she was one of them.)

The results of the prayer: The tour personnel @ the White House called them back to say they could tour there @ 7:30 AM the next morning. They were the first ones to tour for that day AND, their driver, Kevin, was able to find a parking spot right our front! It was a beautiful day to boot!

Persons touring there were to be able to walk up and down the stairs. There were a couple of handicapped sisters who weren't able to do the stairs and so they got a private tour of the first floor which included the kitchen and the library. Helen was breathless when she saw the kitchen which she declares is the size of St Matthew and there were many shiny gorgeous stainless pots & things. Christine Stewart is a retired librarian and she was entralled with the library. They went to other sites and you need to ask them, but Helen told me about the sets of china designed for each president..........and President Obama already has his set in place. ( I can't wait to go there.......I'm gonna make reservations asap. Wanna come?). Those on the "private" tour with Helen were Christine Stewart & Hattie Moore.

Kudos to Kevin Micheal who I'm told is a "very nice" persons. He was so attentive to the needs of the Seniors. Thanks, Kevin!
