Moses Watson & Son Jacob
Father - Son Relationships

(Colossians 3:21: Fathers do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Jacob Watson had the distinct pleasure of being the first "young" man to serve as Guest Speaker at the George A. Parker Men's Club Breakfast/Meeting.

Jacob is active in many of the programs designed for youth. He sings on the choir;he acts with the Drama Club; he's active with the YPD; he attends Sunday School as well. (He tells me that he loves his new school.)

Jacob's topic was "Father-Son Relationships" and as I passed through the Fellowship Hall, I heard laughter and decided to see what Jacob was talking about.

Here are a few of his highlights:
(1) Good father-son relationship are sometimes hard to obtain.
(2) Fathers are great role-models who show their sons to a good path in life.
(3) Altho good father-son relationships are important in a family, they aren't as easy as you'd think.
(4) Fathers need to be empathetic when their sons don't please them.
(It's confusing when dad says not to say "yea" to adults and then he says it. (Editor's note:He's already an adult).

(5) It's important HOW a dad teaches his son "new things". When his dad is cooler and calm about a situation, the better he can handle the lesson brought on by his mistake. Coolness and calmness strengthens the father-son bond.

(6) "I do like spending time with my dad when I can--such as going to sporting events and his trying to play the games I like to play. The areas I feel need fixing may not apply to all of you in here, it's just somethings I have seen in my dad and in some other fathers."

(7) "It is good for every son to have a good father or father figure to lead them into a life of success and good fortune.  Just be careful! When you do lead them, try to lead with a cool head and heart while they are coming up in life."

(8) Proverbs 14:29     "A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly."
